Days one and two

Here she is, at roughly an hour old. We asked the nurses not to bathe her right away, so she still has vernix all over her. Vernix is a lotion-y material that protects babies' skin in utero. It also does a good job protecting them for the first hour or two of life, and can be rubbed in instead of wiped off.

She worked her fingers right from the get-go. She also has surprisingly big yawns. Here she is, doing both.

Our friend Amy Mondloch holds Eve for the first time.

Daddy and baby, sleeping on her first morning.

Marme (Juscha's mother, Sandra) holds Eve. She knitted the hat Eve is wearing.

Juscha puts Eve in her car seat for the first time. Steve got to close the latches.

Eve Xochitl, bundled up to go home for the first time.

Mommy and daughter sit on the futon.

Eve snoozes in her chair as everyone else eats lunch.

Day two: Grandad (Juscha's dad, John) shows up, and meets his granddaughter for the first time.

  2. she's precious!

our midwife collects vernix if you have a water birth and it's floating around. if you don't want it she takes it home for herself to use ;-)
